Self-Propelled City is about getting around your city without your car!
A NOTE TO OUR VISITORS:
Self-Propelled City (SPC) is not angry at people who drive cars. SPC is angry at the fact that so many people are essentially FORCED to use a car to function. As the name of this site should hint at, SPC is mainly addressing urban areas where people are forced to use a car. I know everyone has the choice of not owning a car if they want to, but they must accept using a method of transportation for which the supporting infrastructure is at best inferior, and at worst non-existent. SPC will never accept inferior transportation funding for a superior method of transportation. It's not good economics. Any transportation study will show you that the private automobile is the least efficient way of getting a person from point A to point B in an urban environment. Yet the auto-facilities receive by far the most transportation funding.
I'm really sick of people telling me that the bicycle, which is one of the most elegant, brilliant and ecologically sound inventions of the 20th century, is "a toy for kids." The bicyle is a great toy for kids that's true, but it is so much more. So this site is an information resource for people who want to encourage others to see the bicycle as a vehicle of transportation, not just recreation, in our cities and other places.
